Communications (Public Relations, Marketing, Advertising)

Much of the work I do is for clients seeking help with public relations, marketing, and advertising. I help clients develop and manage PR and marketing plans and campaigns, write copy, create ads and collateral materials, create and distribute press kits and releases, and liaison with media on clients' behalf. I work independently, in conjunction with design and web colleagues, or with clients' in-house designers and staff to develop concepts, copy, and design.

The essential component in creating superior communication is to stay on message and on target to the desired audience. No matter what medium is being used, every communication piece has the potential to attract or repel people to or from your business, product and services, group, or organization.

With years of experience in helping businesses, nonprofits, and individuals communicate with their employees, clients, colleagues and community, I can quickly grasp the essentials of what needs to be communicated and to whom, and am able to get to a finished, high-quality, high-impact product with minimal input and time expenditure from the client.

Editing & Writing

My forte is writing and editing. I love helping others develop and refine their own ideas and text, just as much as I enjoy writing up a piece from scratch.

I write and edit everything from advertising and marketing copy, to On Hold messaging and employee manuals, as well as stakeholder communications, real estate copy, and newsletters. I write, develop, update and manage web site content for clients on a regular basis.

For several clients, ranging from nuclear engineers to architects and corporate professionals who are writing book manuscripts or industry-specific articles for trade publications, I provide editing and ghostwriting services. I also provide rewrite services for some clients on pieces they have already written, but which need significant help in organization, flow, and readability.

I write business, profile, and feature pieces for magazines, as well as write a weekly newspaper column entitled Reality Chick.

Newsletters & Websites

Newsletters, whether print or electronic, and web sites can be highly effective tools for communicating with internal staff, community groups, existing and prospective clients, and the general public.

I've been editing and writing for various newsletter clients, including churches and hospitals for several years – from inexpensive photocopied pieces, to four-color, print-press publications, and electronic-only versions. For one of my clients, I work remotely from Sarasota with a team of contributors in Boston, New York, and Washington DC, to develop, write, and edit content for their corporate newsletter. I manage production schedules, deadlines and distribution, and work closely with the staff and graphic designer on layout and design.

Keeping web sites fresh, relevant, and useful is a chief concern of many organizations. Updating web site content on a regular basis – weekly, monthly, or even daily – gives it a dynamic quality and encourages repeat visiting and reliance on the site as key source for news and information. My services include developing, writing, monitoring and managing web site content so that users and visitors experience the site as a valuable resource with timely information and up-to-date news.

Press Releases

I specialize in quickly turning around well-written press releases that grab media attention and result in publicity for a diverse clientele, including store openings, community news, and professional and business announcements.
